What's on my mind?
Nobody cares.
This is a phrase that is often as dismissive as it is incendiary. However, it has recently become my preferred approach for putting myself out there. Whether it's talking about my personal life in settings like this, or uploading content for the world to consume, there's a certain level of freedom to be gained from taking this approach. In an earlier post, I mentioned things that held me back from pressing the publish button. What I didn't mention was how often I would ask myself questions. Such as "Is what I'm writing interesting to the person who stumbles across these words?" or "Would they willingly read another post if they saw it was from me?".
All of that just adds an unnecessary level of pressure. It stifles the writing process, and halts the flow of thoughts before they can ever be expressed or realized. So I aim to channel my younger self who would post without a second thought. Who wasn't worried about using too few or too many commas. Who wasn't afraid to share what he was working on and be vulnerable to complete strangers online. That guy is still out there, he just hasn't posted in a while.
